Go! Curry

No, this one was not the same as the Go!Go! Curry in Singapore, the one with a gorilla as the mascot. When a friend asked me to accompany her trying out Go! Curry in Pacific Place, I immediately thought of the Gorilla one, but I was wrong.

The place had just opened for a few months I believed, and it was quite busy on a weekday evening. They took curry seriously since they provided different types of curry such as Thai, Japanese, Indian, Indonesian, and British (? I'm not sure about this. I mean since when the Brit is famous for its curry? but yet I'm sure one of the people from the logo was British, no?) curry, that we could choose to create our own curry. We were also able to choose the spiciness level, the type of rice, and what do we want to put in our curry. There were also three different choices for rice: usual plain rice, rice cooked with butter and cilantro, and yellow rice flavored with butter, roasted peanut, and mustard seed.
Tandoor Chicken Tikka with Rogan Josh Curry - Rp 56k
I went with the waiter's recommendation as there were just too many choices for everything.lol save the hassle. He practically recommended the Indian dish. Rogan Josh Curry was their special curry. I believed it was Indian curry. I ordered it mild since I do not eat spicy food. Tandoor Chicken Tikka was basically grilled chicken cubes marinated with Indian spices. He also recommended the Cilantro butter rice.

The portion was perfect to me; it was satisfying. I would say there's nothing really special about the curry. The chicken was tender. It was good but the curry was a bit bland to my taste. It might be because I ordered it mild :( Anyway, I really love the cilantro butter rice. It was aromatic and tasty. I usually did not finish my rice portion (I was on diet *cough cough*), but this time I had to work extra hard to resist the temptation!

Breaded Fish Green Curry - Rp 60k
Well, I actually forgot what my friend ordered but I believed it was the Breaded Fish. The green curry was made with coconut milk, green chili, lime, mint, and pandan leaves to give its green color. She got the long grain rice, which was the plain rice. She also paired them with Dory fillet which was fried with Japanase breadcrumbs.

I didn't try the dish, but I did ask her on how it tasted. She said it actually tasted weird at first since she got the Thai curry with Japanese style fish katsu kind of thing. However, she grew to like it as she ate more of it. And yes, she finished the plate.

Cheese Naan - Rp 23k
We also ordered Cheese Naan for the side dish. It was okay. There was cheese inside the naan!

I also ordered TWG French Earl Grey (not pictured) for drink. It costed Rp 26k.

Overall, I think it was quite good and affordable for Pacific Place. The portion was fulfilling. The bland taste might be because I ordered the curry mild, while others said it was great since they ordered it hot, or even insanely hot. Spicy food lover might want to try the insanely hot curry out!

Oh and I really love the logo graphic! Those five cute guys are so adorable :)

Lan Na Thai

Lan Na Thai was my favorite Thai restaurant in Jakarta, so far. I loved its strategic location, its theme, and the food was to die for! However, parking was a b*tch there. But, they provided free valet parking service, you just needed to tip them well. Another downside was the super dark lighting, combined with the big statues and every candles, it gave spooky feeling. However, the food made me forget (or at least compromise) about anything else.

Lan Na Thai was located on the second-story in the restaurant building. On the first-floor, there was Hazara, which served Indian food. I hadn't tried it yet, but I heard good reviews. There were a lot of expats spotted in both restaurant.
Garlic Beef
This was my favorite dish in Lan Na Thai! Unfortunately, I forgot the Thai name for it :( but I usually just said garlic beef when ordering. You definitely can taste the garlic, but it was not so overpowering. The beef itself was tasty. Love love it.
Gai Hor Bai Toey (Pandan Chicken)
It was basically a handful piece of chicken wrapped in a pandan leaf and lightly fried. They were four of them. They were served with sweet sauce. I love it.
Lan Na Gaeng Phed Ped Yang (Duck Curry)
This was the whole table's favorite (except for Mr. Foo and I who liked the garlic beef better). It came in a small bowl as it was supposed to be for one person only. We usually just ordered one and shared among the table. It was red curry with roasted duck, pineapple, and cherry tomato. And, it was spicy, even though we ordered it mild, it was still a bit too spicy for me (as I do not eat spicy food).
Khow Phad Supparod (Pineapple Fried Rice)
We also ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice to share. The Thai fried rice came with shrimp and topped with cashew and fried onion. it was served in a half-cut pineapple. It was just ok.

Mr. Foo ordered the vegetable dish; he loved veggies! I found it weird. Anyway, the sauteed water spinach tasted so-so to me, nothing's special.

I am so sorry for (again!) forgetting to take notes on the menu details and price :(

I always enjoy my visit to Lan Na Thai, even though I found the super dimmed light quite disturbing. My must-order dishes were the garlic beef, duck curry, and Thai ice tea!

Kuppa @ PI

I hung around at Plaza Indonesia tonight with two of my best friends from college. One of them suggested to eat at Kuppa, a Thailand restaurant. I suggested going to Lan Na Thai instead, another Thai restaurant that was just across the street. However, we ended up going to Kuppa since it was more convenient.

The ambiance was ok. I had never liked the food, but I did not hate it either; it was ok. The only good side was that it was super strategically located in PI and the price was superb, considering it was in PI. I was not in the mood to eat, so I just ordered a dessert.

Both of my friends got the same entree.
Tom Yum Noodle Soup - Rp 42,500
Left: with Chicken. Right: Vegetarian
* I made the collage using www.picnik.com

They actually just offered the Tom Yum Noodle Soup with either Chicken or Seafood. But since one of my friends was vegetarian , Kuppa could accommodate it and changed the chicken to tofu. kuddos for that!

Thai Sweet Roti (around Rp 25,000, not sure)
and Thai Ice Tea (around Rp 27,500)
I used to dislike Kuppa's Thai Ice Tea, but I liked it this time. The Thai Sweet Roti was nice too. It looked like a long sweet spring roll cut into five super tiny pieces. To be honest, I think it was too small :( However, I liked the taste. It was sweet, moreover with the condensed milk over it and it was surprisingly chewy.

Overall, I was not really impressed with the food, but location-wise I might come back again.
